Most casino offers do not need a code. Of the welcome offers we read on 24 and 25 September 2026, none required one: the promotion activates when you opt in and make a qualifying deposit. LeoVegas says opt in. Jackpot City, Ruby Fortune and Lucky Nugget set out staged deposits with no code in the small print at all.
Codes still exist, and they are mostly a tracking mechanism rather than a key. Understanding which is which saves you from the main hazard here, which is depositing first and discovering the code cannot be applied afterwards. Last checked 25 September 2026.
What a bonus code actually does

The distinction matters because the internet is full of code lists, and most of them are the first two types dressed up as the third.
The rule that costs people money
A code almost always has to be entered before or during the qualifying deposit. Once the deposit has landed without it, operators will generally not apply the offer retrospectively, and support has no discretion.
So the order is: read the terms, enter the code, then deposit. Not deposit, then look for a code. This is the single most common way a welcome offer is lost, and it is entirely avoidable.
How to tell whether a code is real
- Check the operator’s own promotions page first. If the offer there matches the one the code claims to unlock, the code is tracking, not exclusive.
- Compare the terms, not the headline. A genuinely exclusive code changes the multiple, the expiry, the cap or the amount. If all four match the public offer, nothing is being unlocked.
- Look for an expiry on the code itself, separate from the bonus expiry.
- Check whether it is for new customers only, which most are.
- Test it in the cashier before depositing. A valid code shows the offer applied. An invalid one says so before your money moves.
- Ignore anything that asks for payment or personal data to reveal a code. Codes are marketing, and marketing is free.
The terms are what you are actually choosing
A code is worth exactly the difference between the terms it unlocks and the public terms. That difference is measured in the four numbers that decide any offer.

Why the code lists are so often wrong
Offers change on the operator’s timetable and code lists are updated on the publisher’s. A page listing twenty codes has twenty things to keep current, which is twenty opportunities to be stale.
There is a quick test that works on any such page, including ours. Take one code, open the operator’s own cashier and try it before depositing. If it fails, the list is out of date, and the rest of it probably is too. The operator’s own promotions page is current by definition, which no comparison page can claim.
No deposit codes
Codes are more common on no deposit offers than on deposit matches, because there is no deposit event to attach the promotion to. The usual sequence is register, enter the code in the cashier or a promotions field, and the credit appears.
The same four numbers still apply, and on a no deposit offer the maximum conversion is the one that decides everything, since it caps what you can take out regardless of how the bonus plays. There is more on that on no deposit bonuses.
Where this sits legally
No operator holds a New Zealand licence. Playing at a transitional market provider is legal for players until 1 December 2026, and DIA warns the activity remains unregulated until the licensed market exists.
Once licences are granted, the Regulations bring restrictions on bonuses and inducements and mandatory harm minimisation messaging in advertising, and advertising cannot begin until a licence is issued. Codes create a sense of a deadline and of getting something others do not, which is what makes them effective marketing. Neither changes the odds of any game, and no game is ever due. Chasing a loss is not a way to recover it.
