A no deposit bonus is the only offer in gambling that costs you nothing to accept, and it is also the offer where the least advertised number does the most work. The amount in the headline is almost never the amount you can take out. That job belongs to the maximum conversion, which is usually a fraction of it.

Read them in that order. A NZ$20 no deposit bonus with a NZ$50 maximum conversion is capped at NZ$50 no matter what happens, and everything above it disappears when the bonus is settled.
What the multiple does to a small amount
The wagering requirement is calculated on the bonus, so a small bonus does not produce a small obligation. The multiple on no deposit offers is typically higher than on deposit matches, because the operator has no deposit to offset it.

The “no deposit” that needs a deposit
This is the part that surprises people, and it is standard practice rather than a trick. Many operators require a qualifying deposit before any withdrawal can be processed from a no deposit bonus, for anti money laundering and identity reasons as much as commercial ones.
It follows that the honest description of the offer is: free to start, not necessarily free to finish. Find that clause before you play the bonus through, because it changes the calculation entirely. If a NZ$20 deposit is required to release a NZ$50 capped win, the offer is a discounted deposit rather than a gift.
Free spins with no deposit, valued properly
Where the offer is spins rather than cash, multiply the count by the stake. LeoVegas states $0.20 per spin, which is the kind of disclosure that makes a spin offer measurable. An offer of 50 spins at an unstated stake could be NZ$5 or NZ$25 of play.
Then check what happens to a win. Spin winnings from a no deposit offer almost always arrive as bonus funds carrying their own wagering requirement and their own maximum conversion, so the spins are the start of the process rather than the end of it.
What it is genuinely good for
