NZ$5 is the only low tier that corresponds to something an operator has actually configured. On the payment pages we read on 25 September 2026, every method that stated a minimum deposit stated $5, across two different brands run by the same company.
That makes this the real floor of the market: below it you are relying on vouchers and promotional exceptions, and above it you are into welcome offer territory at NZ$10. This page is about what that middle position gets you. It was last checked on 25 September 2026.
Where the NZ$5 figure comes from
It is not a marketing number. It is printed against individual methods in the cashier documentation.

| Method | Stated minimum deposit | Type | Withdrawal timeframe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa | $5 | Bank Transfer | 1 to 3 business days |
| Mastercard | $5 | Bank Transfer | Not stated |
| Skrill | $5 | Web Wallet | 24 to 28 hours |
| Neosurf | $5 | Web Wallet | 24 to 28 hours |
| ecoPayz | $5 | Web Wallet | 24 to 48 hours |
| paysafecard, Neteller, MuchBetter | Not stated | Voucher or wallet | Mostly not stated |
Two useful things fall out of that table. NZ$5 opens the mainstream methods rather than the voucher only subset, which matters because vouchers are generally deposit only. And the withdrawal timeframes differ by a factor of about three between wallets and cards, which is a bigger practical difference than the deposit minimum itself.
We read these figures from outside New Zealand, so a New Zealand account may display a different currency prefix. The per method structure is the same.
What NZ$5 actually buys
At NZ$0.20 a spin, twenty five spins. At NZ$0.50, ten. That is enough to see how a lobby behaves, how a game loads and whether the cashier works, which is a genuinely sensible use of five dollars. It is not enough for a session and it is not enough for any outcome to mean anything.
The honest framing for this tier is that it is the cost of an inspection. If the site is slow, the search is poor, support does not answer or the account controls are buried, you have found that out for five dollars.
Where NZ$5 sits against the welcome offer
Below it, usually. Across seven brands run by one company, the qualifying deposit in the offer small print was 10 at six of them. At NZ$5 you generally get a funded account and no promotion, which is not the worst outcome.
The reason it is not the worst outcome is what the offer does to the money. At the brand we tested in September 2026 the terms stated 70 times the bonus with a 7 day expiry, with pokies counting 100 percent, table games 10 percent and live dealer games excluded from wagering. A NZ$10 bonus on those terms is NZ$700 of pokie turnover within a week. A NZ$5 deposit with no offer attached is five dollars you can withdraw, subject only to the payout floor.
Where NZ$5 does appear in promotions, it is usually a fixed number of spins on a named pokie rather than a percentage match. Value those by the stake, not the count: fifty spins at NZ$0.10 is five dollars of play, however it is advertised.
The catch at this tier: the payout floor
The minimum withdrawal is set separately from the minimum deposit and is frequently NZ$20 to NZ$50. A NZ$5 deposit that becomes NZ$18 is below that on most sites, which means it cannot leave until it grows, and the only way to grow it is to keep playing.
Check that number in the terms before depositing. It is the figure that decides whether a small deposit is a test or a trap, and it is the reason the tier below this one is much less useful than it looks. There is more on that on NZ$1 deposits.
Fees, which bite hardest here
Most operators do not charge for deposits. Payment providers sometimes do, and voucher products often carry a purchase fee at the point of sale. A fixed fee of one or two dollars is a rounding error on a NZ$100 deposit and is 20 to 40 percent of a NZ$5 one.
Check both sides, the operator’s terms and the method’s own schedule, before using the small tiers. The same applies to currency: if your account is not held in NZD you will pay a conversion on the way in and another on the way out.
A sensible NZ$5 test
- Read the footer first, for the operating company, licence number and dispute route. The checks are on safe online casinos.
- Find the minimum withdrawal in the terms before depositing.
- Pick a method that appears in both the deposit and withdrawal columns, so a payout does not need a second one.
- Verify your identity on day one, not at the withdrawal. In our tests document review took 3 hours 20 minutes at one brand and 21 hours at another.
- Decline the offer unless you have read the multiple, the expiry and the maximum conversion.
- Set a deposit limit while you are still in inspection mode.
- Try a small withdrawal, even of a few dollars if the floor allows. It is the only test of an operator that actually matters.
Where this sits legally
No operator holds a New Zealand licence. Playing at a transitional market provider is legal for players until 1 December 2026, and DIA warns that the activity remains unregulated until the licensed market exists. Deposit size has no bearing on that. See our main casino page for the timeline and the minimum deposit hub for the tier comparison.
If gambling is not staying fun
A five dollar deposit is easy to repeat, and repetition is where the total comes from. Watch the monthly figure rather than the size of any one transaction. Chasing a loss is not a way to recover it.
Use the deposit and loss limits in your account, take a time out, or use self exclusion at every operator you hold an account with. New Zealand has no shared exclusion register yet.

Questions we get asked
Is NZ$5 really the minimum at most casinos?
On the payment pages we read, yes. Every method that stated a minimum deposit stated $5, across two brands run by the same company. Only paysafecard, Neteller and MuchBetter stated no minimum.
Will NZ$5 get me the welcome bonus?
Usually not. The qualifying deposit in the offer small print was 10 at six of the seven brands we checked. At NZ$5 you generally get a funded account without a promotion attached.
Is it better to deposit NZ$5 without the bonus?
Often yes. A deposit with no offer attached is ordinary withdrawable money. A bonus converts it into a turnover obligation, and at 70 times with a 7 day expiry that obligation is large even on small amounts.
Can I withdraw after a NZ$5 deposit?
Only once the balance clears the minimum withdrawal, which is set separately and is often NZ$20 to NZ$50. Check it before depositing.
Which methods work at NZ$5?
On the pages we read, Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neosurf and ecoPayz all stated a $5 minimum. Note that Mastercard showed no withdrawal timeframe at these brands, and on a sister brand’s table it was marked deposit only.
How many spins is NZ$5?
Twenty five at NZ$0.20, ten at NZ$0.50. Enough to inspect a lobby, not enough for a session or for any result to be meaningful.
Are there fees on a NZ$5 deposit?
Sometimes, from the payment provider or at the point of sale for vouchers. A fixed fee costs proportionally far more at this size, so check the method’s own schedule as well as the operator’s terms.
