The third column is the one worth sitting with. A promotions page carrying a percentage, a maximum and a spin count, with no multiple, no expiry and no exclusions anywhere on it, is not an offer you can evaluate. It is a number.
The four numbers that decide what an offer is worth
- The wagering multiple, and what it applies to. 20x on the bonus is a different thing from 20x on deposit plus bonus. At 70x, a NZ$50 bonus means NZ$3,500 staked.
- The expiry. The same multiple is easy in 30 days and impossible in 3.
- Game weightings and exclusions. Pokies usually count 100 percent, table games often 10 percent, and live dealer games are frequently excluded entirely. A 10 percent weighting multiplies the required turnover by ten.
- The maximum conversion. The cap on what you can withdraw from bonus funds, regardless of how the session goes. It is the least advertised number in gambling and often the one that makes the offer irrelevant.

The headline is a sum, not an amount
Welcome offers at this end of the market are assembled across several deposits. Jackpot City’s NZ$1,600 is four matches of up to NZ$400, one per deposit, with a NZ$10 minimum each. Ruby Fortune’s NZ$750 is three matches of up to NZ$250. Lucky Nugget’s headline is 40 spins for NZ$1, and its small print sets out a first deposit from NZ$1, a second from NZ$5 and a third from NZ$5 carrying a 150 percent match up to NZ$200.
The number that applies to a decision you are making now is the per deposit cap, not the total. More on that on minimum deposit casinos.
Free spins are a quantity, so convert them to money
A spin count means nothing without the stake behind it. LeoVegas states $0.20 per spin, so 3,000 spins is $600 of play. An offer of 500 spins at an undisclosed stake could be $50 or $250 of play, and you cannot tell which.
Multiply count by stake. Then find out what happens to a win: spin winnings usually arrive as bonus funds with their own wagering requirement and their own maximum conversion, which is where the value actually gets decided.

What licensing will change
The Online Casino Gambling Regulations 2026 bring restrictions on bonuses and inducements for licensed operators, alongside mandatory harm minimisation messaging in advertising. Advertising itself cannot begin until a licence is granted, and DIA expects the first licences during the first half of 2027.
Nothing applies yet. Transitional providers are bound by the Act but not by those Regulations, which is why offers today range from fully disclosed to not disclosed at all. The timeline is on our main casino page.
Reading an offer in two minutes
- Find the wagering multiple and what it applies to. If it is not on the promotion page, open the full terms. If it is not there either, that is your answer.
- Find the expiry, and the separate expiry on any free spins.
- Find the game weightings, especially whether live dealer and table games count.
- Find the maximum conversion.
- Find the qualifying deposit, which is usually higher than the cashier minimum.
- Convert spins to money by multiplying the count by the stake.
- Then decide whether to take it at all. Declining leaves your deposit as ordinary withdrawable money, which for small deposits is very often worth more.
If gambling is not staying fun
A bonus works by making the balance feel larger and the exit feel further away, because a wagering requirement is literally a reason to keep playing. If an offer is the reason you are depositing, that is worth noticing. No bonus is free, and chasing a loss is not a way to recover it.

What does a wagering requirement actually mean?
You must stake a multiple of the bonus before anything derived from it can be withdrawn. At 70x, a NZ$50 bonus means NZ$3,500 of turnover. At 20x it means NZ$1,000.
Is a bigger bonus better?
Only if the conditions are comparable. A NZ$400 bonus at 70x needs NZ$28,000 of pokie turnover in the window. A smaller bonus at 20x with a longer expiry is usually worth more.
Why are live dealer games excluded?
Because their house edge is lower, so wagering there would cost the operator more. One brand states the exclusion on the banner and another only in the full terms, which is the difference worth noticing.
What is maximum conversion?
The cap on what you can withdraw from bonus funds, whatever you win. It is rarely advertised and it frequently decides whether an offer is worth taking.
How do I value free spins?
Multiply the count by the stake per spin. LeoVegas states $0.20, so 3,000 spins is $600 of play. Where the stake is not stated, you cannot value the offer.
Can I just decline the bonus?
Yes, and it is often the better trade. A deposit with no offer attached stays ordinary withdrawable money with no turnover condition.
