Open the live casino menu at any site serving New Zealand and count the supplier badges. What live casino actually is
A real dealer, a real wheel or a real shoe of cards, in a studio, streamed to you, with the bets and payouts handled by software. The cards and the ball are physical. That is the whole difference from the software version of the same game, and it has three practical consequences.
- It is slower. A table runs at the pace of the dealer and the betting window, not at the pace of your clicking. At the same stake and the same house edge, an hour of live blackjack costs less than an hour of the software version, because you play fewer hands.
- The rules are printed on the table. Often legible in the lobby thumbnail before you open the game, which is genuinely useful and almost nobody does it.
- Some of it is not purely physical any more. The multiplier games bolt a random number generator onto the live wheel, and that changes the payouts. See below.
The multiplier trade, stated plainly
Lightning Roulette is the most played live game in the category and the clearest example. Evolution describes it on its own site: the wheel has 1 to 36 plus a single zero, one to five Lucky Numbers are drawn each round with multipliers between 50x and 500x, and then the sentence that matters.
Non multiplied straight up bets pay 29 to 1. All other bets, such as splits, corners, red or black and dozens, pay the same as standard roulette.
Standard roulette pays a straight up bet 35 to 1. So the multipliers are not added on top of the normal game. They are funded by cutting six units off every ordinary single number win. Pragmatic Play’s Mega Roulette makes the same trade and puts the 500x on the lobby tile.
Two things follow, and they are the practical version of this whole page. If you bet red, black, dozens, splits or corners, the multiplier games cost you nothing, because those payouts are untouched. The bonus problem, and it is a real one
At the brand we tested, the welcome offer carried a wagering requirement of 70 times the bonus with a 7 day expiry, pokies counted 100 percent, table games 10 percent, and live dealer games were excluded entirely.
Excluded means what it says. Play a live table with an active bonus and the wagering clock does not move, and at many operators it is also a terms breach that can void the balance. Game shows, and the statistics industry around them

That is the supplier telling you the tracker is entertainment, not information.

What to check before you sit down
- The payout rule on the felt. For blackjack, 3 to 2 or 6 to 5. It is often readable in the lobby thumbnail. For roulette, whether there is one zero or two.
- The straight up payout if you are playing a multiplier roulette. 35 to 1 or 29 to 1 tells you what you are buying.
- The table minimum in NZD, not in the currency of the marketing.
